From Doug Lehmann: ![]() Almost all my movies and various scripts deal with characters that are outsiders. Niche motifs that have universal appeal. Glyn Styler is the story of a man that reinvents himself. The thing I love most about him is that he puts on a mask not to take us on a fantastical journey, but to speak honestly about his life. The real Glyn Styler has little to do with the plot of the short. I simply "borrowed" this intriguing character. We shot Kodak B&W reversal stock on an ARRI SR. The reversal is what gives it that contrasted, documentary like image. We also masked off the image to 2.35:1 aspect ratio. I don't think that's done very often in 16mm because it means a grainier image, but I think grain, dirt, dark, and contrast are perfect for this story. -Doug Lehmann |
